NieboGuard for Android

The full NieboGuard app for Android — map, radar, scanner and phone features. Available directly from GitHub, outside Google Play.

This is the full app outside Google Play. It includes the features described below, but is installed from an APK rather than a store. It is not an official alerting system. Install only the official file and do not disable Google Play Protect or other Android security features.

What the app includes

Map and radar

Aircraft map, ADS-B, NEPTUN, PAŻP, satellites, history and filters — the same public data as the web app.

Sky scanner and AR

Sky scanning, AR view, compass, phone orientation, labels and object selection. Camera and sensors require permission.

Remote ID

Public Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Remote ID receiver, grouping, expiry and map/AR presentation. Availability depends on the phone chipset.

Reports and community

Observations, photos, profiles, rankings, missions and local tools. Reports go to moderation and do not trigger alerts.

Alerts and notifications

Local notifications, alert channels and region settings. FCM is prepared in the client and backend; a physical-device test is still required.

Audio AI

Microphone, spectrum, spectrogram and a local YAMNet model. Audio analysis is informative and does not identify a specific drone model.

Camera and Vision

CameraX preview, photo capture and manual object marking. Automatic AI detection is not part of this release.

Safe places, AEDs, shelters, help-point map and quick return to the map. Points are auxiliary and may be out of date.

These are implemented project features. Items marked “in progress” are not presented as finished. A missing item does not mean it will never be added.

How to install the APK

  1. Download the APK from the official NieboGuard-Community repository or the release link on this page.
  2. Open the downloaded file in a file manager or from the download notification.
  3. If Android asks, grant a one-time permission to install from the selected source.
  4. Install the app and launch NieboGuard.
  5. Review version and permissions; enable phone features only when you need them.
Security: install only a file from the official GitHub Releases. Do not use mirror sites, link shorteners or files from unknown people. If Android warns about an untrusted source, verify the file instead of disabling security.

Requirements and permissions

System requirements

  • Android 7.0 or newer (minSdk 24).
  • Target Android 16 / targetSdk 36; behaviour depends on the manufacturer and WebView.
  • Internet connection for the map and public data.
  • About 50–56 MB for installation; the size depends on the variant and release.
  • A Google Play account is not required for a GitHub APK.

Permissions and purpose

  • Internet, network: map, source data and updates.
  • Bluetooth / Nearby Wi-Fi: public Remote ID signals.
  • Location: “overhead” views, map and scanner; it is not sent automatically.
  • Camera and microphone: only after you start those features.
  • Notifications and background service: local alerts and scanning when enabled.

Permissions are requested when you use a feature. Refusing them does not block the basic map. See the privacy policy for details.

Google Play

The future stable channel. There is no verified public Google Play listing yet, so no store link is shown.

Planned release ID: pl.nieboguard.app. A separate DEV build uses pl.nieboguard.app.dev.
